Gayle's Glass Paperweights

The Sunday Series 52 photo challenge topic for this week is 'glass' (http://www.aruraljournal.com/).  Wow, lot's of different directions one can go with this, probably all of them interesting and fun.  My first idea came to me as I was looking at my wife's desk which had some of her old glass paperweights organizing some bills and stuff.  It struck me that they might photograph really well.  Anyway, I am now going a very different direction for the photo challenge, but I did manage to get a couple of good pics I wanted to share.

A word about glass paperweights.  Based on a quick Google search, they date back to the early 1800s, and they are very collectible.  Believe it or not, there is even an official Paperweight Collectors Association (PCA).  Don't believe me?  OK, click the link http://www.paperweight.org/.  Now do you believe me?

I have no idea how old these are, if they have any value, or even where my wife got them from (although I think I can guess), but here are my 3 favorite.  Enjoy!

  1. Nice shoot. Very colorful and interesting to capture in a photo. I bet your wife has an even better paperweight collection on her desk at her place of employment! Better find out. :-)

  2. I like the third one best...it reminds me of a quilt.

If I can guess where she got it can I have it??????

Interesting subject to photograph, didn't know about the collection value.

    These look priceless to me:-)

  3. Those are amazing paperweights. I've got a couple somewhere at home, but nothing like these.
