Elephant Seal Overlook, Point Reyes CA

If you travel east at the end of Point Reyes (vs. west toward the light house), you will reach Elephant Seal Overlook, the Historic Lifeboat Station, and Chimney Rock Trail. It's an incredibly beautiful area, and I don't think my photos do it justice!
Little farmhouse out on the point. I wonder who lives there??
Beautiful ocean bluffs on the hike out to Chimney Rock
Hiking out to Elephant Seal Overlook (you can just make out the Elephant Seals on the right)

Looks like space is at a premium! The bull seals reach 16 feet in length and 6,600 lbs! The female
"cows" are much smaller at 10 feet and 2000 lbs.
Tule Elk are commonly seen.

  3. If I was going to live by the ocean that little farm house would be perfect.

That's a whole lot of seals.

    Nice shots in the fog.

  5. Interesting how someone from elsewhere can come into your own "backyard", take pictures and you think to yourself "Hey, I've never seen this" inspite of how many times you've been there. Well done.

  10. Wow! This is amazing photographs. You were so lucky to see elephant seals. I have never seen them before in real life. I love how they are resting on the beach. They look so peaceful. And an elk was so nice and let you take his/ her picture. Very graceful elk. And I love also the picture of the fog and lifeboat station. Amazing picture!

I enjoyed every picture very much. Thank you for sharing these unique pictures!!

  11. Fabulous photos! The fog makes them even more atmospheric. I was also lucky to see the elephant seals on this same beach this past fall when my husband and I drove up the California coast from San Diego to San Francisco.

  23. You are probably right about shots not doing the area justice. But as a experienced photographer I can see beyond that. I would probably love that area. :) Thanks for sharing. :)
