Pumpjack

Pumpjack: Also called nodding donkey, pumping unit, horsehead pump, rocking horse, beam pump, dinosaur, sucker rod pump (SRP), grasshopper pump, jack pump, and my personal favorite, thirsty bird pump. Whatever you call them, they seem to be getting rare in Orange County these days. This one is up by the Summit House restaurant in Fullerton, California.

  5. That's a lot of names for one machine to have! My photo was taken going up Independence Pass from Vail to Aspen. It is a beautiful drive (a bit scary too). Have a nice weekend. Mickie:)

  19. Quite a few nicknames that lil thing has - I think I like pumpjack the best. :-) Your photo makes a rather utilitarian item look almost beautiful, with those big fluffy clouds for a background. Thanks for visiting my shelf cloud SkyWatch post!

  20. Hard to believe that these things were really the force that pushed us away from coal.

Our winter has been mild and much more windy than normal - but as ever, short.
