"Don't Hang Signs" Sign

My wife spotted this sign. Ironic, don't you think? This is a long exposure night photo, so anything in motion (oil pump, cars...) is blurred. I like how the traffic signal is red, orange and green all at the same time! The rising moon adds to the photo's interest as well.
30 second exposure, f/18, ISO 200, 23mm
Another long exposure night shot (below). This one caught my eye because the moon was bright enough on this cloudless night to cast some well-defined shadows.

  7. These are both wonderful. I really like the way the lights fan out in the shots. The 2nd one caught my eye. I just became a new follower and would love it if you'd consider adding a follow by e-mail feature to your sidebar as well for updates.

  16. Great shots and really like the contradiction in the first one. Now the sky in the second one more black and not so blue but how?

  20. hahaha. I enjoy coming across signs like that one. I like your compositions. Seeing the moon-casted shadows inspires me to to out at night on a full moon.

  21. So much going on in that first photo - the amusing irony ("this applies to everybody but me!") and the blur of the pump jack are both cool, but it's the illuminations I love best! That beautiful but baffling traffic light (OMG, do I stop? Slow down? Go? Go faster? lol) and the radiant moon - lovely! After all that fun chaos, the fence shadows give such a tranquil note to end on.

  23. Too funny! I am just now playing with long-exposure shots and I love it. Those starbursts and motion blurs that come from it are awesome. These are pretty darn amazing!

  28. What a joke to have that sign made and then hang it on a fence! The second image is beautiful and it's fascinating to read how it was created - I'm going to have to learn how to get beyond point and shoot!
