National Chloride Company

This area of the Southern California desert near Amboy is fascinating to me. So sparse and open. The National Chloride Co. has operated in this area for years, and the soil is heavily modified and impacted by the operations here. There are channels of chemically-laced waters, white salt-encrusted soils and little triangular man-made hills. Nothing grows here, and I imagine it's a bit like being on the surface of the moon (without the gravity change). It lends itself to B&W photography.

Joshua Tree Bus

Spotted this vehicle while driving through Joshua Tree last weekend. Of course, had to pull over for a quick photo!

Mad Max...

Or Merry Pranksters??
I'll let you decide!!

Joshua Tree Signs

Taken on a recent Jeep drive in Joshua Tree National Park. These signs in the middle of nowhere always strike me as unique and odd.

A couple of color shots taken on the same day... a really pretty sky on this particular day.

Walking Along the Pier

I took this shot some time ago and for whatever reason never got around to posting it. This is the Huntington Beach Pier in S CA, and I like the way it captures the activity of the people strolling along enjoying the sunset. What could be more enjoyable at the end of the day?
Linking with Skywatch Friday.  I guess this might qualify as a fence, so will link with Good Fences also!  Thanks for stopping by, and have a great weekend.

Fishy Face

My granddaughter can make the best fish imitation with her lips. Sometimes she gives us "fishy kisses". Makes me laugh every time she does it! Here's a pic taken with my fisheye lens, which makes her look even fishier!!

Wild Mustard and Fences

When I pick up my Granddaughter from day care in the afternoon, we drive right by our local park. Some days, I just can't resist pulling over for a quick walk! It's a great place to take the dog, too. A couple of weeks ago, the wild mustard was in full bloom, so the photos were more colorful than usual.

If you're lucky, you can watch a baseball game while walking through the park. That bright red batting helmet caught my eye.
And of course I can't resist including a Granddaughter shot...
