San Onofre, CA

A dark, brooding sky over the Pacific Ocean in San Onofre. The strangely positioned sign directed toward the ocean tells people approaching from the water that this is a "Nuclear Exclusion Area". There are many such signs along this stretch of coastline.

Linking with Skywatch Friday. Click on the link to check out great skies from around the world, and thanks for stopping by!!

  1. At first I thought nuclear exclusion meant excluding nuclear activities but when I saw the structures in one photo I realize it probably relates to insurance policies that will not cover damage caused by nuclear accidents. Odd to think about it amid such beautiful scenery.

  6. Whoa, beautiful pics. So I guess they have room for only one nuke? Don't bring your own. I tell Logan that certain areas are video game exclusion zones.

  21. Fantastic shots! I LOVE that first one! I'd love to know more about the power plant...is it abandoned? The fact that the San Andreas fault is there makes it a strange place to put a nuclear power plant. The beach is gorgeous! I can't get over how awesome your photos are!
