- Full Snow Moon
- Full Hunger Moon
- Full Storm Moon
- Full Candles Moon
- Full Wolf Moon (more often celebrated during January)
- Full Trappers Moon
- Full Bony Moon
I'm guessing this is not even a complete list. No snow out in my neck of the woods, so I'm going with "Full Bony Moon". Sounds kind of weird and creepy, but interesting. I wasn't able to be out in the desert for the recent Full Bony Moon, so I walked up into our local hills and took these. It was wonderful sky watching because the sun was setting just as the moon was rising. If I didn't like one view, all I had to do was turn around!
Enjoy!!

Happy Valentine's Day and happy weekend!
Great pictures of Mr Moon! Mystical and mysterious!
ReplyDeleteBest, Merle
...WOW, the first and third are magical, thank for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI too love the first and third especially.
ReplyDeleteThose last two took me to Halloween. LOL Yes there is something about that Full Moon. I am reading a lot of Westerns lately, they use the 'Rustler's moon.'
ReplyDeleteThere is definitely beauty in that full moon. Of course your camera's eye brings them in closer.

Love that third photo as it looks so spooky silhouetted like that - it lives up to the Bony Moon label!
ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful. I love all the different names for the moon. I am amused by all the names that just say "Native American" as if all such people were the same.
ReplyDeleteWow - fabulous shots!!
ReplyDeleteAwesome pics. Loved the post.
ReplyDeleteFirst and third are great shots!
ReplyDeleteExcellent shots and beautiful too

They're all wonderful, but the third one is the one rings my bell.
ReplyDeleteWonderful pics!
ReplyDeleteSome wonderful shots of the moon there, I should try it a bit more myself. The first and third really are good. Have a good Valentines day
ReplyDeleteThe third one is a real japanese zen moment. I can see that one executed as a stencil in brown rice paper.Beautiful as always.
ReplyDeleteHello, beautiful moon and photos. Happy Valentine's day, happy weekend!

ReplyDeleteI completely missed the February moon. Where was I? Now I can say I saw it. Beautiful shots!
ReplyDeleteI've never seen that happen!
ReplyDeleteWow...incredible moon shots!
ReplyDeleteGreat moon shots. I do love a full moon.
ReplyDeleteThat's the first I've heard of the moon having so many names, we saw it though but it was like first thing in the morning when it was high in the sky around 7am
ReplyDeleteGorgeous shots, well done!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is your 3rd moon - so filled with mood! Though I also like the two last, with the night blue sky - reminiscent of how I would do a sky in my paintings!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend! Jesh
Great set of sky shots!
ReplyDeleteCreepy but sooo beautiful. Shot number one is my favourite, with that pink sky.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
Great pictures. I especially like number 3 and the last one. They are all great but those 2 are my favorites.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Back to my 3D-book on the moon!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful full moon shots. The bony branches make them look so creepy, like those in haunted movies.
ReplyDeleteWOW!!! Awesome series!! So very poetic and expressive!

The moon makes such a dramatic display. Great shots.
ReplyDeleteI feel like applauding!
ReplyDeleteClap. Clapping. Still clapping.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos of the moon. Great Shots!
ReplyDeleteI especially liked the last one, it's fantastic.
So beautiful. I can never get any context for the moon here in Florida. It’s just up there in the big dark sky, nary a tree nor branch and hardly a cloud.
ReplyDeleteThe "bony" fingers of the trees adds such a creepy feeling to these pictures. Perfect for the "Bony" Moon. And I agree with you that these names for the moon seem to be a recent invention. Or maybe I have been asleep at the wheel for several decades!
ReplyDeleteI have heard a few variants of moon names. Terrific shots!
ReplyDeleteYeaahhh, it's probably you, Americans gave these all names ;) Beautiful close-ups.
