Time Flies!

Wow, I can't believe my last post was December 11th!! I never planned to take a blogging break over the holidays. What can I say... Life happens and time flies by!
Lots of cloudy skies and rain in my neck of the woods (Southern CA), which is wonderful. We will indeed be thankful for the rain come this summer. A nice view of the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island in the above photo. Catalina Island is about 40 miles from the spot where this photo was taken.

The Toyon berries always look festive this time of year!

For those of you who live in wet climes, the next few photos won't be anything special. Those of us who live in lands of litte rain get excited when we see water droplets on plants. We're strange that way!

Heavy fog, with 30-40' visibility. Normally there's an excellent view from here!

Prickly Pear fruit.

Skeletal remains of Prickly Pear pad.

Alien seed pod.

I usually give my friend here a fist bump as I go by on my hikes, but we both agreed a selfie was in order today. Check out his new cactus fruit necklace in the photo below!

Fast moving clouds, Christmas Day, 2025.

A rainbow over our backyard fence. I'm sure it means good luck and prosperity for 2026!

Wishing you all HAPPY HOLIDAYS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

  4. That photo with Catalina island makes it look like one could swim out to it.
I am glad you got some rain. From what I read some of California is getting way too much. I live in a wet climate and I never get tired of raindrops on plants.

  5. Absolutely amazing pictures! The flowers, drops, and metal people are perfect. But I have to admit I'd love to see the lens you use to pull Catalina in from your location. F'ing mind-blowing!

    1. Bill, it's just my cell phone at max zoom. Not even one of the fancy phones with a telephoto lens. With my big camera and a telephoto lens, I could pull it in much closer.

  19. I am quite happy to see your flowers because all we see these days is white. That purplish one is very pretty.

  20. Even in our climate we get excited to see water droplets on flowers and plants and anything else we can find. All of your shots were wonderful. I quite like your friend, he could be a good listener!
It is nice to colorful plants when we have a monochrome world at this time.

  24. I’ll bet the people living about 70 miles from us that got over 2 feet of snow in the past few days would have wished for some rain instead, but then again we see what parts of California in Oregon are going through so maybe not. I love that rainbow over palm trees. Happy New Year to you!

  26. First of all, a happy new year to you and your loved ones.
These are beautiful photos, but raindrops are a common sight for us. Last year, 690 mm of rain fell in our garden. And that was a relatively dry year for us. But right now, we're mainly captivated by the first snow this year.

  33. Cactus skeletons are so interesting. Whenever I see one, I want to take it home, but I know it would eventually just get thrown away so I let them lay.

  34. Honestly, I didn’t expect to come across something like this.

  35. I really like the prickly pear with the raindrops, I had no idea what a Prickly pear looked like! I'm so glad you are excited about the raindrops. Living in a dry sunshine climate must be lovely most days, but I'm sure it has it's drawbacks. Wishing you a Happy and Healthy 2026, may your coffee stay hot and your Wifi always be working.
