Gimme a Hug!

Been using my telephoto lens for close-up sunset shots. I like how it makes the sun look gigantic! It just gives it a different look and feel, especially since I am used to a 17mm wide angle. Anyway, here's a recent shot I like... kinda looks like the spiny Joshua Tree is hugging the sun!
I used Photoshop to take a similar photo and "desaturate" everything but the sun. Makes the sun look like a big orange!

    I think long lenses are overlooked as landscape lens - wide is not always better.

    Beautiful pictures. The second one reminds me of an japanese wood print. Don't no why. Must be the composition and the colors I guess. Well done.

    Nice shots and I like them both. I have a "super zoom" camera and I've noticed that if I can get the right angle it sure makes the sun look large. I love your creativity in the second shot.

    That first photo is amazing - and you're composition was perfect, it really does look like the Joshua tree is embracing the sun! Perfection!

    The Joshua trees are kind of cute, but I imagine not-so-cuddly with those spines and all. I like your special effects. :)

    I have family who live in northern CA so I'm fascinated by your southern perspective, especially the 29 Palms area. There's some family history for me in that area also...
