I haven't posted any pictures of my granddaughter, Lilly, for a while. She's 6 months old now and cute as a button! Yesterday she discovered how to jump in a jumper seat, and she's been going non-stop!! It's hysterical... she jumps until she falls asleep, then wakes up and jumps some more!
We managed to escape out to the desert this weekend for some badly needed R&R. Thanks to my sister over at Lap Dog Knits for keeping a close eye on our sick mother this weekend. Gayle and I started what will be many, many hours of work on fixing up our little homestead cabin and trailer. Step 1: Meet with a guy to put in a septic tank. Check. This guy is great, has lived in 29 Palms his whole life, and his parents before him, and he's full of interesting stories. His prices are incredibly reasonable, and he said he will even create a flat pad for the trailer using his backhoe and haul the trailer up on it. But I digress... step 2: Contact someone to haul away the huge pile of old discarded junk. Check. So today, we collected all the old metal junk around the cabin and added it to the huge pile that was already there. As we were cleaning, you will not believe what my wife found in some bushes next to the cabin! I'm not a big fan of being in front of the camera lens, but I had to make an exception for this!
All I kept hearing my wife say was "Don't drop it, don't drop it!!". This bomb (or whatever it is) is super heavy, so no doubt in my mind it is fully loaded!
Haven't been doing much photography recently, so best I can do is to pull from the archives. The good news is that I have a ton of photos in my archives! This is out on Highway 62 in 29 Palms, CA, as the sun was setting... and catching this beautiful sky in the rear view mirror of my Jeep. Hoping for smoother sailing ahead... and more photography!
These photos are from about 2 weeks ago. We went for a hike in the boulders out behind our house in 29 Palms. We were fortunate to have some GREAT skies! I like the look of the skies against the boulders.
My cousin and his wife, heading up steep terrain!
Red Barrel
After a considerable amount of climbing, we finally found some flat terrain. The views were incredible!
Uh oh... cactus thorn through the shoe! Note to self: For future desert hikes, carry needle nose pliers!
Ah, back home!!
Overall, a really fun hike with some great skies. In another month, the cactus should be in bloom, so hoping to do it again! Linking to Skywatch Friday. Have an outstanding weekend!!
Desert Christ Park overlooks the high desert town of Yucca Valley in S. CA. Here the visitor will find more than forty snow-white statues and images portraying scenes of Christ's life and teachings. Dedicated on Easter Sunday, 1951, check out the interesting history here. This particular sculpture is located high on the hill, and I was thinking of the beautiful sky and Skywatch Friday as I was hiking up the hill to take the photo. I used a couple different texture overlays to make the sky even more dramatic. Hope you like it, and Happy Skywatch Friday!
