Moon Set / Moon Rise

My ability to find time for photography has been greatly diminished. That's OK, other priorities in my life right now. Since I don't have much time for photography, posts may be a little sporadic for a while. Anyway, we were out in the desert a couple weeks ago during the big full moon. I happened to step out of the house around 7 AM and noticed a huge moon slowly dropping to the horizon.
10/19/13 @ 7:25 AM. Taken in 29 Palms to the northwest.  F11, 1/200 sec, ISO 125, 400mm focal length.
The moon was scheduled to rise about 12 hours later, so we drove out to Wonder Valley to find a secluded area for a moon shot. We found this old outhouse, lit it up with the car headlights, and waited for the moon to rise!
10/19/13 @ 7:10 PM.  F11, 4 sec exposure, ISO 400.

  4. What a pity the outhouse shot came a little late for Halloween. It would have been just perfect. Great shots both.
Amazing the way life has a habit of muscling in on our Photography/blogging time.

  11. Holy moonballs! These are amazing. I've tried to shoot the moon at 400mm and did not get results like this. Not even close. Thanks for sharing all the settings. Have a great weekend!

  12. That first shot is over the top. If I didn't know better I would scream "Photoshop" but know you would confess to it if you did. As for the outhouse, I've never seen one constructed like that. I need to get down to the desert!

  13. Impressed that you knew where this building was, pictured the moon in your mind's eye above it later that day and went for it. Excellent job!

  26. Wow, fantastic images!
Love how you used the headlights. ;-)

I was once on the Navajo campgrounds, on a full moon light. I looked out the window at 2 AM, and it was the most wondrous scene. I did not dare to take a picture, not wanting to wake the little ones. Today I'd do just that. Ones lives and learns. ;-)
