With Water... and Without!

With water (February photo after some winter rains):

And without water (taken a week ago, same location):
You can see why so much of California has extremely high fire danger. All the wild mustard plants and other weeds have totally dried up and are highly flammable.

Even without rain, the skies are still beautiful! And I'm lucky to have my little photo-model with me wherever I go!!

Linking with

  2. It seems all the danger is in California -the coast today got hit with a tsunami (result of an earthquake in Chile?). Amazing pics - what lens did you use? and I see HDR...have a great weekend!

  10. Such gorgeous photos! I do hope California gets lots of rain but in moderation so there is no flash flooding and mud slides in burned out areas.

  36. Those first two shots are so gorgeous to me. Love the blue in the sky with the gold on the ground. Great contrast.

  37. Thats a great set of shots - that dry colour reminds me of Australia in drought - and we have the same fire issues when that happens. Hope it rains.

  38. Wonderful sky photos. So sorry for all the fires in California. We are pretty dry here in Texas as well at the moment, and no rain in sight. So far, no big fires, so am crossing my fingers.

  39. I love the sky pictures very much, and it's good to look at something beautiful when so many people complain about the drought (including me!). I live not too far away from the big Valley fire, it's truly awful and very scary. Thankfully our country has been spared so far, fingers crossed.

    1. Hi Cheryl Ann. Thanks for stopping by. These are taken in Fullerton (Ralph B. Clark Park). I only am able to get out to 29/Joshua Tree on occasional weekends, so that's why you see this weird mix of blog posts (some from the desert and some in Orange County).

  41. Oooooooh these are gorgeous, I do love those moody skies!! We've had similar skies that did not produce any rain. We are very dry here in New Jersey, but not nearly as dry as many other areas!!

  47. While I love how bright the greens are in the "with water' photos, I'm also charmed by how rustic the "without water" photos look :)

  48. Rain is desperately needed in Oregon as well of course. Your pictures illustrate the difference perfectly, tho you make the dry ones look appealing too ( maybe it's that model ;)) .... But if someone didn't know how dangerous these conditions are, they might just think it was a lovely prairie.
