This is looking southeast. That little peak with some snow is, I think, Saddleback. At least that's what I've been calling it for a long time. It only gets snow after the coldest storms move through the area. I'll change lenses (wide angle to telephoto) so we can take a closer look.
Yup, we can clearly see snow on Saddleback using the telephoto lens. I should mention that these photos were taken from the Summit House Restaurant area in Fullerton, CA (no desert shots for this post). From this restaurant and the surrounding area, you have some of the best views to be found in the area.
Speaking of the desert, it's too bad I didn't have a chance to drive out to Joshua Tree after the storms. Over a foot of snow at the higher elevations in the Park, and the photos I've seen are just incredible! Joshua Tree gets snow from time to time, but usually only an inch or two, and it rarely lasts, so this was really unusual.
Here's the view N/NE. I think that's Mt. Baldy under those clouds, and you rarely see the snow level down so low. Hard to believe I'm standing in Fullerton taking these shots. Mt. Baldy is 30 miles away, as the crow flies. My granddaughter Lilly commented that "it looks like you can touch the mountains!"
I walked right by this pole a couple times before noticing the hawk.
Look really closely and you might see a bird on top of the pine tree.
Wishing everyone a Happy New Year and all the best in 2020!!
Great photo's of the stormy sky, been mostly dull around here though sunny today. Back with my blogs tomorrow. Happy New Year to you and your Family

aka (A Creative Harbor)
All the very best to you for 2020 with many more desert experiences and pictures to share, but especially for Lilly, with the sincere hope that we start to remediate some of the harm we have caused to the world she will inherit from us.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots. The mountains have looked pretty close lately, just like after a good rain.
ReplyDeleteCloud formation in the first pic is massive and very dramatic too. And for the bird shot; You hawk eye. 👀 😀
ReplyDeleteWishing all the best to You and Yours, Happy 2020!
Wonderful images. Thanks for showing me your skies in the other side of the country!
ReplyDeleteUsed to pass by the Summit House, on my way to work in Placentia! Not in photography back then. Wow, Love the light and clouds above Mount Baldy - beautiful!! Have a terrific 2020 vision year for blogging, and of course in all the other areas of your life:)
ReplyDeleteAwesome pics.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes for 2020.
Greetings.
Wow - stunning!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful skies! The hawk was also very pretty.
ReplyDeleteStunning skies to close the year 2019. Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteStealthy raptor. :-)
ReplyDeleteThats real fantastic clouds. I still don't find a motivation to wake up my telephoto lens. Probably your pictures should inspire me to pull out the telephoto
ReplyDeleteCalifornia to me is such a land of contrasts. I remember standing on the Tehachipi Mountains during a pipeline project where there was several inches of snow on the ground and looking down on Bakersfield min the valley where it was in the 90's.
ReplyDeleteWe do enjoy what your eye catches. For some reason the Hawk in this shot is special. Thanks again, I just love nature and mountains.

I put Fullerton, CA on my "bucket list." I think I may have been there when I was 11 or 12 years old but a return trip with adult eyes might be worth it. Happy New Year right back at you.
ReplyDeleteWow, breathtakingly beautiful. Wishing you and your family a very Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous skies! Happy New Year. :)
ReplyDeleteGroßartige Aufnahmen, sie faszinieren mich alle.
ReplyDeleteGekonnte Fotos !

That's some pretty incredible scenery over those Mountains.
ReplyDeleteThats a complete other show than your usual deep blue skies but the landscape is still unbeleavable as always. I like it.
ReplyDeleteLovely photographs. Postcard worthy. Have a good week.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully shots of the mountains with snow. Happy New Year to you and your family!
ReplyDeleteThose first two photos make my heart sing with joy!
ReplyDeleteI wish you and your family a Happy New Year, too.
Happy 2020! Beautiful views of the mountains and sky through your lens!
ReplyDeleteIt would have been amazing to see so much snow In Joshua Tree, but it also probably would have been difficult to drive and hike in the park.
Happy New Year to you and yours Peter ... these pictures are surely unexpected from you, but definitely an unexpected pleasure. So beautiful (from a distance is my preferred way to view the cold stuff nowadays). Lily’s observation is perfect...she has learned to be a good observer and still keeps the wonder and awe of a child ... it’s a good thing to e ulate!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pics, the first one is very dramatic.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year 2020 !
Happy New Year! Skies worthy of a new decade!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous sky shots! I think that same storm made its way to the Phoenix area too. We had some rain and cold weather for a few days. Snow at Joshua Tree would be a beautiful thing to see.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos! Thanks for sharing them with us.
ReplyDeleteVery dramatic skies.
