My granddaughter had an early soccer game (8am) and I signed up to help with net setup, so we had to get to the field by about 7:15am (yuck... not a morning person). After helping with the nets, I had about 15 minutes before game time. I noticed what looked like low-lying fog (something I rarely see where I live) along what in the desert I would call a wash, but here in suburban Orange County I would call a dry stream bed. There's a nice hiking trail that follows the stream bed just adjacent to the soccer field.
After taking only about 20 steps beyond the soccer field fence, I came face to face with this guy. Perfectly quiet and still. He (she?) looked at me for what felt like forever, but in reality was probably just a couple minutes. Still, a long time. There was curiosity in those eyes. And intelligence. Not fear, but a wariness about me and what my next actions would be. Was I friend or foe? I finally made the first move to see if I could edge my way closer for another cell phone photo, and he went trotting away into the brush. Thanks for dropping by!
Linking with Skywatch Friday.
A wonderful serie. I especially like the first one.
ReplyDelete...fog makes for magical morning.
ReplyDeleteLovely capture.
ReplyDeleteMesmerizing photos - such beauty in a few seconds of sunrise
ReplyDeleteThese are striking! Almost a good argument for not staying in bed at that hour.
ReplyDeleteDearest Peter,
ReplyDeleteThere is always a golden lining for the early riser 😏
Happy for you for having captured these unusual photos.
Hugs,
Mariette
Haha I am not a morning person either! Wonderful fog. We've had fog most of the week Made driving a little tricky!
ReplyDeleteYou attract beauty with your attention everywhere you go. Lucky for us! Best wishes
ReplyDeleteAt least the fog wasn't too dense. Very atmospheric pics.
ReplyDeleteThe coyote blends in so well with the background. I think you captured a really good photo of him/her :)
ReplyDeleteMr. Coyote is cute! When I still had to drive to work (I took off at 05:12 a.m.) I often stopped in a village I passed trough to take a pic of a foggy scene, I miss that!.
ReplyDeleteNow I walk 7 steps from this PC to my work PC... No fog to be seen...
I like the timelapse of fading fog. You have shown that the opportunity to photograph lies in your backyard
ReplyDeleteLovely hazy atmosphere. An encounter with wildlife is always a joy. Happy Advent, Peter, and thanks for visiting my blog!
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures. Ground fog is very intriguing and sometimes creepy too.
ReplyDeleteA bit different then normal but very nice again.
ReplyDeleteSpectacular scene as the fog is moving away. Great shots ~ Ms. Donyarific
ReplyDeleteAmazing photos!
ReplyDeleteI love how inquisitive you are. Your curiosity got you a great shot of a coyote and the photo with the sky, sunrise, and fog.
ReplyDeleteBack before I retired I used to get up early and run when it wasn't too cold and was treated to some amazing skies.
Amazing pics, Loved the post :)
ReplyDeletebeautiful. haha, imagine cycling (before 7am) to yoga room.
ReplyDeleteFantastic photos of the low lying fog ~ and the coyote is awesome photo ~ Xo

That encounter - what an experience. Great photos, too.
ReplyDeleteYou are lucky to have spotted both the fog and coyote. Fog is so rare in desert areas and I love seeing it when I can. My friends were in Oregon over Thanksgiving and they texted me several foggy shots. They had lots of it.
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful photos! Nice capture of the low-lying fog. Your face to face with the coyote is really powerful.

Great captures!
ReplyDeleteCoyote posed beautifully for you. They really are intelligent animals who don't (IMHO) deserve their bad reputation among some. The ground fog makes everything kind of magical -- I'm not a fan usually of fog but at least in your photos yours was lovely.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful misty shots and what a great encounter.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you didn't have to throw a water bottle at the coyote like I recently saw on TV. Or that raccoon attack with similar results. I love having nature close as long as it doesn't bite me in the leg!
ReplyDeleteHow neat to spy a coyote close by. I've heard them off in the distance here, but I haven't seen one up close. It's been really foggy here in the mornings. In October, I snapped a spooky pic of our Halloween decorations in the fog and it looked so cool.
