We had been hiking all afternoon under mostly grey skies and didn't have much hope for a colorful sunset. As the sky darkend and a few raindrops fell, we started angling our way back in the general direction of the car.

| Split rock. |
 |
| Heart rock. |
 |
| This one reminded me of sliced bread, with mustard on the side. I must be hungry! |
 |
| How can a seemingly dead plant produce these beautiful flowers?? |
 |
| Even long after Nolina blooms have lost all their flowers, they are still photogenic! |
We finally had a few moments of golden hour sunlight break through the clouds. Mitch and I were focused on these rocks when Nadine said "Look behind you!"
 |
| Golden light was streaming under the cloud cover. For the next 15 minutes, we were spellbound! |
 |
| Nadine hard at work getting the best possible camera angle! |
 |
| As the sun set, the light shifted from yellow to pink. |
A glorious way to end a hike!
Thanks for stopping by!!
All of your photos today are so beautifully composed and framed. Your first paragraph said nothing much happened but then ever photo brought amazing life.
ReplyDeleteYou just never know if the sunset will be a good one. Glad you stuck around!
ReplyDelete...too many times I have baled out on a sunset only to miss the afterglow. The pops os yellow are a welcomed addition to the roughed scenery.
ReplyDeleteSo glad those dark clouds broke open to let you all see a beautiful sunset! I always enjoy seeing your photos of rocks that have shapes that suggest something else.
ReplyDeleteAll of those fab photos, and then you caught a sunset too. The spent Nolina blooms really caught my interest, but well done all.
ReplyDeleteIt seems the most unexpected sunsets are often the best.
ReplyDeleteBless Nadine's heart! Your photos are absolutely stunning and captivating! Thank you so much for sharing this lovely tour!
ReplyDeleteWow, those are dramatic. You don't think about how the sun might get under the clouds. Amazing shots.
ReplyDeleteThese images are spectacular.
ReplyDeleteWorth a Thousand Words
Wow gorgeous sunset.
ReplyDeleteWow! What a grandiose way to end an outing when you are surprised by nature's grandeur radiating in the sky! In the photo that reminded you of sliced bread, I thought I saw the proximal phalanx section of fingers. And going along your thought of sliced bread, I was thinking of a knuckle sandwich. :-) Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI love the light in these photos! Spectacular!
ReplyDeleteWow! Amazing sun set photos and rock formation ones also ~ Have a wonderful weekend ~ thanks, ~ thanks too for commenting on my blog ~
ReplyDeletean artist reflects
AHHH THE sky colors are fantastic but the sliced bread and mustard stuck in my mind. As I look at the rock formations I have seen and those you pick, I always think , 'How did this happen?' such s the giant leaning rock. Anyway, the photography is fantastic. I bet Nadine gets some fantastic shots too! From NC looking forward to FL in a couple weeks... NC is cold now... LOL
ReplyDeleteThe last few are stunners!
ReplyDeletelooks stunning!!!
ReplyDeleteA wonderful sunset
ReplyDeleteWow now that is a sunset, glorious.
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing new to say--- So I will simply repeat myself: Fabulous pictures, and a wonderful post.
ReplyDeleteso Many fantastic scenes. It's hard to pick a favourite but I think for me it has to be the heart rock. Have an awesome weekend.
ReplyDeleteFantastic again with also some fine plants in the picture and of course the skywatch.
ReplyDeleteI was already thrilled by the first part, and now there's this fascinating sequel... The pictures are impressive, depicting a nature that has become rare. It spontaneously occurred to me that the impressions would be wonderful for a calendar. And I agree with the comments before.
ReplyDeleteI read the travelogue with great interest.
Seasonal best wishes 🎄
Stunning series of photos, Amazing skies.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend.
What an absolutely amazing sunset. The mustard formation intrigued me also it looked like it was planted in a giant’s hand rather than something out of nature.
ReplyDeleteYou had me wowing at the rock formations and dramatic plants and then you nailed it with the sky. Such spectacular views you had with rich colors.
ReplyDeleteAnd Nadine laying down with the rattlesnakes to get the best photos.
Absolutely amazing photography!
ReplyDeleteYour photos never fail to inspire.
ReplyDeleteThat golden light streaming through the clouds is magical.
ReplyDeleteI love the heart rock. And the bread! Mother Nature is an artist! Wow - and you are a great photographer!

Thank you for sharing!!! Looking forward to Part II.
Wow, the clouds have served you well in these shots. Your sunset turned out to be a good one after all. Nadine on the ground like that brought back some memories. I remember when I was able to do things like that. These days, I stay upright as much as possible. ;-)
ReplyDeleteYou and me both!
DeleteOh my goodness, you have outdone yourself again. These photos are stunning, beautiful. What can I say, took my breath away.
ReplyDeleteI do like the mustard flowers, the yellow is really bright among the rocks. Hope everything is good with you.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was a beautiful series from the start, but what a fantastic finale followed!
ReplyDeleteThose rock shapes are amazing, especially the heart and ‘sliced bread’ ones!
ReplyDeleteAnd that golden light at the end felt like a little reward for staying out despite the grey skies.
The colours, the mood, and the way the landscape changed with the light… just gorgeous!
