The Flower Moon was actually on May 1, but April 30 (when these photos were taken) was better from a photography point of view. Why, you ask? Because moonrise was an hour later on May 1, well after sunset, and it would be semi-dark. If all you want is a picture of the moon, May 1 would work fine. If you want some foreground in your photos, April 30 works much better.
April 30, about 7:15PM on a beautiful, clear evening. Still no moon visible to the east, but some nice color in the sky looking west. I really enjoy full moon nights when moonrise and sunset times are close together!

| Ah, hello beautiful! 7:29PM. Moonrise was 7:01PM, but the haze was blocking visibility earlier. |
 |
| 7:50PM - dark blue sky. |
 |
| It's dark enough that I need my headlamp, which does a nice job lighting up the leaves! |
 |
| Good for future Halloween posts! |

| Photoshop creation... In honor of the Flower Moon! |
Does the moon rise at about the same time on full moon nights? I think I want to frame the pic with the palm trees.
ReplyDeleteIt fluctuates a bit. The full moon on May 1 had a moonrise time of 7:55PM. The full moon on May 31 has a moonrise time of 8:42PM.
DeleteYou planned perfectly and your photos illustrate your timing point perfectly
ReplyDeleteYou are the master of night photography. I love how you got the moon with various landscape features.
ReplyDeleteAll the moon views are beautiful! I especially like the ones where it is criss crossed by the tree branches.

...delightful moon shots!!!
ReplyDeleteA splendid series of moonrise photos! It was indeed much better for you on the 30th. You reminded me that silhouettes in front of the moon can be just as beautiful, even when the moon is out of focus.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning photos.
ReplyDeleteOh my, such gorgeous shots.
ReplyDeleteGreat skies captured.
ReplyDeleteWhen I have shot the moon, I tried to put it in a scene because we all see the same moon everywhere, so it’s good to see it in context.
ReplyDeleteI just love these images, Peter. Our friends have moved to an aparment nearby, with a roof top garden. We were all set to watch the moon rise on the 30th but cloud filled the horizon. Next month!
ReplyDeleteStunning moon photos, Amazing pics. Loved flower with moon. Greetings.
ReplyDeleteFantastic moon shots! I like 4th the best.
ReplyDeletelovely shots
ReplyDeleteLoved the mood throughout the post, especially the soft dawn colors and the silhouettes against the sky. Beautifully captured!
ReplyDeleteA couple of those shots put me in a 40's noir (in color) mood.
ReplyDeleteYes, this moon was shining here too in the night. Your captures are fantastisc.

ReplyDeletePictures of the moon have always fascinated me but I don't have the equipment or the skill to capture a focused close up images like yours.
ReplyDeleteI have finally realized this very same thing about the night before a full moon. Although the last few full moons...I was sound asleep or it was really cold. I hope to get motivated for the next one.
ReplyDeleteFantastic photos, brilliant work.
Oh my, these photos are spectacular! I like the pale distant moon and the path foreground and the palm tree foreground. But really, I love them all.
ReplyDeleteSeems like each photo was better than the previous one. My favorite was 7:50 pm with the future Halloween photo a close second.
ReplyDeleteWow, you got some stunning photos! Just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteDang, those moon pictures are fantastic.
ReplyDeleteOh wow these are amazing :-D
ReplyDeleteYou have created another beautiful series. I find the moon in combination with the palm trees particularly beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI love taking photos of the moon and these are just spectacular. I envy those astronauts who recently got an up-close view. Your flower-moon photos made me smile.

ReplyDeleteYour photos are transcendent.
ReplyDeleteYou really captured the magic of the Flower Moon with those landscape details.
I especially love the way the branches create silhouettes against the glowing moon.

ReplyDeleteWorth a Thousand Words
Beautiful captures 😍
ReplyDeleteI did see the flower moon, I happened to get up in the middle of the night and looked out the bathroom window to see it shining back at me. Nice set of photos
ReplyDeletewow you got some great shots of it, it's usually always too cloudy here for me, have a nice weekend.
ReplyDeleteStunning as always. Wel done.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sky colour and gorgeous moon shots.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures. The fourth one is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteThose are lovely. I like the blurry one with branches best!
ReplyDeleteWonderful! I specially like the one taken from the path and the black and white one.
ReplyDelete-Soma
Fantastic series! As a fellow lunatic, I love all of the images.
ReplyDeleteSome stunning images here, love them all. Funny to see the moon with palm trees.
ReplyDeleteThat is some skill right there! I think my favorite is the one with the branches that will be perfect for a future Halloween post.
ReplyDeleteYou always seem to get the moons we miss; this part of north Texas has a lousy record for allowing good celestial viewing. We had cloudy skies both nights, and will now have to wait until the Blue moon at the end of the month for any chance of a good moon view. Thanks for your vigilant attentions skyward!
