The Milky Way

Needed to drive out to the desert last night so I could have some work done on our desert homestead cabin project. There's a local kid out here (Shane) who is a real wizard with a Bobcat... amazing what he can do! I needed to meet with early Thursday. When we got out to the desert Wednesday night we had beautiful clear skies and the Milky Way was quite visible. One of my friends on Flickr told me the secret of photographing the Milky Way is to set your alarm for 3:30 AM when the night skies are at their clearest. I took this at about 9:30 PM... way to tired to get up at 3:30! I think it turned out fine.
ISO 1250, f/2.8, 16mm, 30 second exposure.

Here's Shane and his Bobcat hard at work fixing up my dirt driveway. That's the little desert cabin we're fixing up on the right. Still got a ways to go, but it's coming along. I keep reminding myself that there's no hurry and to enjoy the process! It really has been a lot of fun.
Linking with Skywatch Friday. Click on the link to check out great skies from around the world. Thanks for stopping by!!

  4. Beautiful shot of the milky way.

If I had a gazillion dollars I wouldn't buy me expensive cars and jets and stuff. I'd get me a bobcat and about 40 acres of underground utility free land to play with it.

  8. Gorgeous photo! I can't imagine it being any more beautiful at 3:30am. :-)

Love your attitude about fixing up the cabin. A friend and her husband are building their retirement home in the UP of MIchigan and he keeps forgetting to enjoy the process, stressing out himself and everyone around him with unnecessary and unreasonable self-imposed deadlines. I told my friend to tell him he's going to infuse the house with negative energy ~ your cabin, on the other hand, should turn out to be a peaceful, happy place! :-)

  13. I do like that Milky Way shot. We used to be able to see the Milky Way from our house but the cities are growing ever closer, so not any more.

  15. Awesome shot. Once of the best skies I ever saw was up at Tom's Place, CA. I was simply amazed at the night sky. Your shot reminds me of that trip.
