Big Moon!

Seems like everyone with a camera was out photographing the super moon on Sunday night! It was pretty cool because moonrise and sunset came at almost the exact same time. I'm guessing that's a pretty rare occurrence. As I was setting up on one side of the street, getting ready for the moonrise to the east, I took a pic of some photographers setting up on the other side of the street (shooting toward the west).
Meanwhile, to the east, the supermoon was starting to rise over central Orange County and the Saddleback Mountain.
...And a few minutes later, it looked like the moon was rolling down the mountain!

As I was driving home, the moon was still low on the horizon so I stopped and took this photo of the moon and the Harbor Blvd. street sign. I like the way it turned out!

Hope you had a chance to get out and enjoy the moon over the weekend! Linking with Skywatch Friday. Click on the link to check out great skies from around the world!!

  8. Gorgeous shots ~ all excellent! The second photo (moon rising over the hills) & sixth photo (moon centered against a dusky blue sky & the hills still visible at the bottom of your image) have to be my favorites. The conditions were perfect to capture this event! Visiting from #SWF. Hope you'll hop over to see my contributions Weekend #photo contributions

  12. I was hoping you were out there getting photos of that big, beautiful moon!! And you did not let me down!! Incredible series! We stood with jaws agape each evening watching her come up over the horizon - a deep, eerily dark red at first, then orange, then gold, and finally silver - and so huge! It was magnificent. Thank you for capturing such beautiful images of it!

  17. Awesome shots -- I'm especially drawn to the second and third pics. It was too hazy here to get a good look at the super moon, nevermind a decent photo. Maybe we'll have better luck with the next one. Thanks for stopping by to check out my sunset.

  19. Nice photos. Where I lived, it was too cloudy to see the moon, but the clouds were brighter than usual.
