16mm wide angle shot |
You could see the big, heavy clouds moving in quickly.

This photo (above) is one of my favorites. You can clearly see heavy rain coming down on the left. Very dramatic! Fortunately, it stayed to the east of me.
I was even treated to a rainbow (or at least part of a rainbow), although it didn't last long.
Above is the view west... a nice sunset shot.
The view southwest (above). Like I said, the sky was putting on a show in all directions! I did my good deed and took a few photos of the family (walking back home on the trail) under some very dramatic skies. They said it was going to be their 2014 Christmas card.
My last shot of the night, and back to my 400mm telephoto lens. If you look closely, you can see the big overhead cranes of the Long Beach Shipyard, and the Pacific Ocean beyond. I packed up my gear and hiked back to my car just in time to avoid a brief downpour!
Linking with Our World Tuesday. Thanks for stopping by!
Absolutely stunning. When we lived in the desert we always enjoyed the clouds and storms.
ReplyDeleteThanks, JoAnn! Although most of my shots are of the desert, these were actually taken in Fullerton, California (currently not a desert, although if our drought situation doesn't turn around, it may be desert soon!!!). Peter
ReplyDeleteWow, those weather shots are just amazing. I also like your header.
ReplyDeleteGreat weathershots indeed. Now hoping that it brings some substantial rain.
ReplyDeleteAll these captures are amazing! Love especially the last one - maybe because the variety in the horizontal lines!
ReplyDeleteYou took some beautifully dramatic sky shots. It would be unheard of, in my neck of the woods, not to have rain for nine months. It makes me thirsty just thinking about it.
ReplyDeleteYour dramatic photos look almost 3D. Enjoyed them very much. Hope the rain falls on you soon.
ReplyDeleteOh, dramatic photos indeed!! I do hope you get the rain that is needed so desperately! My youngest daughter lives in CA and I do know how badly rain is needed!! Thanks for sharing these!! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteLove these dramatic images!!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely cool shots! I love to see the sky in different phases.
ReplyDeleteWow! You well convey the AWE!

Hooray for RAIN!
ReplyDeleteWe've already had some up here in the northern half. More on the way they say. GOOD! Your favorite is mine also.
ReplyDeleteHurray for the rain! And what wonderful shots.
ReplyDeleteWe went through a ten year drought, around 1998 - 2008 - and it felt like it was never going to rain again. And when it did, it was remarkable. Both of my kids grew up to near double figures in a drought - I still think that consider rain a novelty!

It was a tough choice but your favourite is also my favourite.
ReplyDeleteThe sky in that second to last shot is absolutely breathtaking!

ReplyDeleteThese are all amazing sky photos! You really captured all the moods of this storm. I know the rain is very welcome there in S CA--I just hope you don't get flooding and mudslides. Hopefully the drought is over and the rain will come more frequently
