Desert Views

I haven't done any desert photography for a few weeks, so it was nice to get out last weekend with the camera. These were taken near the Indian Cove area in Joshua Tree National Park.

The yucca plants are blooming!

Hard to see, but the barbed wire fence on the left of the yucca in the above photo is the border for Joshua Tree National Park. Step over (or under) it to the left and you are in the Park. That's exactly what I did, and then hiked up the wash, as I took the photos for this post.

Textured photo of side-by-side red barrels.

  6. Beautiful images! When the sun sets is probably the best time to take pics? During the day the sun must obliterate half of the shapes!
First I though the next to last was an explosion - you got me good there, Peter!
Also inviting you to my new meme SEASONS - anything during the seasons goes (beyond landscapes!) The thumbnail link is open Mon-Wed. till 7pm, Pacific time.
Just to give you an idea, I like one of your images of the old cars you posted before:)-but it's your choice. Happy weekend and hope to see you there!

  12. I saw that fence. I think I'd step over rather then crawl under. Wow your desert photos were just wonderful.

  13. Amazing crystal clear photos.

You mean they don't have a high tech security fence with a nearby swat team to swoop down on trespassers?

  25. Your photos are so vivid! The first one is my favourite. I'd like it as a picture in my home. When we lived in Southern California Joshua Tree was a place we like to camp and use our telescope to watch the stars. - Margy

  27. Great pictures. It's so nice to see other parts of the country. It may as well be another part of the world for all the similarity to where I live.

  28. I love your desert shots! It's so fascinating to see the landscape, so different from everything else. We have breathtaking landscapes and views in Norway, but in my opinion, nothing compared to the desert. If I have to pic a favorite, I will chose the first image, the tree makes a great focus point and it has a stunning view.

  32. So beautiful! Funny you sneaking into the NP!! (As I remember it, there aren't any entrance gates anyway and I'm sure you have a pass, but I just couldn't resist a little teasing!). We once stepped across a barbwired fence into Mexico while in one of the Arizona National Parks. Long time ago-- there's probably a wall there now (not funny).
