This is a photo of Malapai Hill in Joshua Tree National Park(a 2-image pano shot). The photo doesn't really do it justice. As you drive south along Geology Tour Road, you pass the twin peaks of Malapai Hill. The hills really stand out because the rocky material is much darker than the surrounding area. Malapai Hill is thought to be part of an ancient volcano which spewed out lava into an area of lighter-colored granite. Malapai is an Americanization of the Spanish word malpais, which translates to "bad terrain" or "badlands".

Any desert scene resonates with me, and this one is very well composed. (Can you imagine a world without deserts?)

ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about photos not doing a scene justice. It's just never as good as seeing with your own eyes, but your shot is pretty awesome anyway!
ReplyDeleteGreat pano of the area, I'd have thought Canon would have added a panorama app on their cameras by now, others have it even the smartphones. Never knew that was how the Bad Lands got their name
ReplyDeleteWow, great pano. So different from the pano's I see every day.

ReplyDeleteI have been there. Beautiful image. Lucky you!
ReplyDeleteToo beautiful to be called 'Badlands' ... but then the Badlands in Dakota are beautiful in their own way too .... I guess it would be hard to grow anything on the land and that's what people were thinking of. In both cases.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful ... Grand views!
ReplyDeleteThat is lovely!
