Saturday was about as good as it gets. The weather seemed to mirror the big changes going on in our country. On Thursday the high was 94, and we were coming off 3 months of record-breaking heat and mostly cloudless days. By Saturday, we had a new president, we barely made it to 60 degrees, and we had our first rain in a very long time. Oh, and USC won their first game of the season. Like I said, as good as it gets!
The storm clouds were beautiful and I couldn't resist heading out to take some photos. I wasn't in the desert, so things probably look a little different than my usual posts.
Clouds, clouds, lovely clouds!! |
Pretty fall colors, and a large bush full of these reddish leaves that really stood out. As I removed a leaf, rubbed it between my fingers and then placed it to my nose to smell the scent... wait, no, just kidding! Leaves of three, let it be. I thought this might be poison ivy, so I kept my distance.
Downtown Los Angeles... about 25 miles as the crow flies. |
Rain cells visible looking toward the ocean. |
I was rained on just slightly. The sun was going in and out behind the clouds, with some blue sky clearly visible. Beautiful!
Not a desert shot, but prickly pear cactus is common in the area. |
Following the trail back to the car. Yup, definitely not the desert! |
Linking with Skywatch Friday.
Thanks for stopping by. Stay safe and stay healthy!
Great clouds! Great photos! Happy SWF!
ReplyDelete...you captured a lot of drama in those skies! In western New York State we broke two daily records this week with highs of 78 F, stange for November. I don't know what your red leaves are, but they aren't poison ivy. Take care my friend and enjoy your weekend.
ReplyDeleteWhoa these clouds - magnificent! Los Angeles doesn't look too good, sorry. Life in the desert seems to be more invigorating, challenging, and poetic:) Now I have lived in the forest I can understand you spend your weekends in the desert:)
ReplyDeleteNo desert but still such dramatic skies. I didn't care that it wasn't the desert, either (after all, you provided us with a cactus.) As for where I live, we broke or came close to a couple of record highs, just edging into the 70's. But the beautiful clear blue skies were so unusual for November.
ReplyDeleteI"m betting you don't get alot of rain there so I imagine it's appreciated once it comes.
ReplyDeleteLove the photo with the cactus. It’s so different from anything I see.
ReplyDeleteWE have passed LA at least 10 times and I do not think I have ever seen a skyline, great shot. I am a fan of clouds sind a kid lying on my back flying a kite and making things our of clouds in my mind. Love the path an prickly pear, I think they were big in Cuba also. Maybe I am thinking of my boys and 'cactus apples.'
ReplyDeleteThanks again,
Sherry & jack
Wow, great photos. You could find them anywhere. What a great spot you found. It looks fairly wild.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos. I love to see rain streaking down from those great cloud formations.
ReplyDeleteLooks beautiful in the desert. I’d really like to visit one day. The prickly pear cactus looks pretty with the red blooms.
Not sure if they are spent blooms or just arriving. Neat!
These are some changes I can really be happy about!!! A new President, precipitation, and gorgeous cloud formations. Yippee!
ReplyDeleteAmazing clouds, Great pics.
ReplyDeleteStay well. Happy Weekend.
Spectacular cloud formations you got going on there.
ReplyDeleteWow! Lovely rain shafts. I love the clouds too especially during sunset/sunrise time. Lately I have realized how useful is 70-300mm :-D
ReplyDeleteOK looks like we had the same idea with the clouds only you god some stunning views to match.
ReplyDeleteYour pictures remind me of the beauty I saw when I visited as a kid in the 50s, the wonderful sights on clear days when I'd ride my motorcycle through the hills and up to Arrowhead and Big Bear-- 20 years later. Stay safe!
ReplyDeletethank God for the rain - I hope and pray you have more - but not too much!
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteGood changes! I am sure the rain was welcomed, awesome shots of the clouds.Pretty views! I like the trail and the prickly pear cactus. Take care, have a happy Friday and a great weekend!

The trails are nice to see along with those beautiful looking skies.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend and stay safe!
Awesome cloudscapes!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful clouds and trails.
ReplyDeleteThe skies were sure dramatic over the weekend. Oh, and that wind! There's a spot at the top of Signal Hill (the park there, I can't recall the name) where you can also get a pretty good view of LA's skyline on a clear day. Amazing to realize that it is so close.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if you're thinking of Hilltop Park? I went there once, and had forgotten about it. Incredible views... downtown LA in one direction, the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island in another. Time for another visit!
DeleteGorgeous skies! Would love to see it all one day.
ReplyDeleteWhat phenomenal clouds. And your ninth photo (sixth from the bottom) looks like a beautiful oil painting, simply superb :)
ReplyDeleteYour shots of the clouds are very beautiful. But so are the autumn colours.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend!
I love these wild dark clouds, they are so impressive ! Congratulations to your new president, I hope the old one moves out from alone ....
ReplyDeleteVery dramatic sky with lots of storm clouds. That is a nice trail for a change but I do miss your desert scenery. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteCloud Formations Rule - Congrats On The USC Victory - Thanx For The Diversity Of Top Shelf Photos - Enjoy The Family Time This Weekend
ReplyDeleteCheers
Beautiful captures of a dramatic sky!
ReplyDeleteThese are great sky shots. We are having similar weather here. It went from the 100's to 60 degrees in what seemed like overnight. It's gradually warming back up but the mornings are still pretty cold (at least to my desert thinned blood).
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sky shots! Love the red leaf too!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend!
Definitely not your usual photos, but every bit as dramatic and beautiful!
ReplyDeletelove the shot with a path leading into clouds.
ReplyDeleteLove your skies. Such drama!
ReplyDeleteYour photographs of clouds are dramatic and powerful. I love to look at the sky and cloud formations. I wish there was a wall calendar just showing clouds seen from many places – yours would certainly have to be included.
ReplyDeleteMagnificent cloud formations SPP, some almost biblical 😉 I completely understand how good those clouds and a bit of rain are after a long hot summer.. enjoy ✨
ReplyDeleteThe drama is in your skies nd no longer the election. I'm glad you're getting a weather break. I'm on one too. In Florida. :)
ReplyDeleteI’ve heard there are people who have had to test that little three leaf memory jogger for themselves. (Honestly I was just quickly moving a leaf aside to get a picture and ....) Believe me, I’m glad you knew better (so do I, now.). What a glorious place to celebrate that good news day. This one certainly was different from your usual , but no less beautiful and dramatic and I loved it.
ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous dramatic skies! Glad you got a nice rain. I probably wouldn't know poison ivy if I saw it - I've never been around it!
ReplyDeleteGreat cloud photos! Stay safe.
ReplyDeleteLooks ominous
