A Desert Road with a View!

There's this little desert road I like to visit from time to time. I know if I go there in the late afternoon, I'm virtually guaranteed beautiful sky shots. It's in Joshua Tree National Park. It's certainly not hidden, but it's not all that popular. I think I'll try to keep it that way. It's an east-west road that provides stunning late afternoon sunset views. All of the following were taken from this little dusty road on the same afternoon.

Mitch is checking out the beautiful diagonal light.

One of my favorites.

Late afternoon "golden hour"

After the sun has set, the golden light changes to pink/purple.

Last photo of the day.

  2. What a place you found. You and your friend need to put up some no trespassing signs and stretch some barbed wire across that road. That's how it's done in Oklahoma.

  7. Gorgeous skies, but it is your photo composition abilities that really make them look fabulous. Your portrait Joshua Tree would be my favourite as well.

  10. Great pictures-- but the odd thing was that I instantly flashed back to about 1948, a time of Guys from Oklahoma talking about the Wild West, Philip Morris ads with Grofe's "On The Trail" from the Grand Canyon Suite, cowboy shirts and cap guns. Perhaps it's be cause it's after midnight and coyotes are yipping and singing outside. They're everywhere these days. Lots of words to just say, your pictures today took me back to age 5, cowboys, variety shows, and dramas on the radio. It was a good flashback. Thanks.

  12. Your views of dessert and mountains are amazing. I love the second photo with the fingers of God stretching toward the rustic rocky hillside in the foreground and then off in the distance the eye sees the purple majestic mountain range disappearing out of sight. Your exposure and composure is always spot on every time. I alway leave your blog feeling inspired and an urge to dust off my big girl camera to brush up. I'll never match your talent but it's fun to practice. :) Have a fototastic weekend!

  22. I'd love to be on that road looking at that sky! So beautiful -- and it looks like it wouldn't take a long hike with a GPS to get there? (My goals have changed during the last decade ))!)
The pictures with the Joshua Tree -- the golden hour one and the pink sky one -- are super- special.
