Water Tank Trail

I've never hiked this "trail" before, but I was wanting to hike something with some steep sections and close to home (let's call it training for an upcoming desert hike... more on that later), and this trail fit my needs.
The clouds appear to be marching across the sky, single file.
In most spots the Water Tank Trail is about as wide as a road. Plenty of room for hikers, bikers, runners, or even the occassional horseback rider. I picked a great day. Recent rainfall made everything feel fresh and clean, it was a comfortable temperature, and I even had some pretty clouds overhead.

There are a couple spots along the trail where you can stop, relax, and take in the view.

There's one area along the trail that's particularly pretty. The pines and pepper trees overhang the trail and provide some nice shade.

During this time of year, it's not unusual to be treated to great views of Mt. Baldy covered with snow.

Thanks for stopping by!!
Linking with Skywatch Friday.

PS: Just realizing I forgot to take a picture of the water tank that this trail leads up to. Don't worry, you're not missing much. It's not very photogenic!

  4. This is different from your usual hikes but I imagine that the greenery, blue skies and mountains are nice to have closer to home. :)

  6. When I first glanced at your post, I thought I had gone to the wrong blog. All that green growth is not in the desert, but then I read you're trying a trail close to home. OK. That makes sense! Lovely photos today.

  8. Dearest Peter,
You have proven to be an excellent 'cloud master'—most of your photos look rather dramatic!
This seems to be a great trail, wish we had something like that near us. Even though I'd have to walk alone as my Pieter's knee can no longer manage. The orthopedic surgeon advised him to bike as that does not strain the knee and removes the liquid. That goes great, we just rolled another 18.6 miles by 78.8°F. Tomorrow rain again—we've quite a wet winter and one can tell everywhere the water is quite high!
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  9. I love this hike. It is much more "pastoral" than your desert hikes with plants and trees. Don't get me wrong I love the wildness of your desert hikes but this trail is more like what we have in eastern Oklahoma.

  12. As usual your pictures are exquisite. I've been fortunate enough to see the mountains from various places in the basin--- When the air is clear like that, it is magnificent. If only three quarters of the people would move somewhere else.

  13. I'm not always a fan of these mixed-use trails, but you found some incredible photos along the way.

  14. Unlike the normal corridor through the desert, this is a four-lane road of sorts. Nevertheless, the photos are beautiful as always. Hats off to you.

  17. Lesson for the day - one doesn't have to be in the middle of nowhere to find beauty. Those views are so pretty! Not at all like the scenery where I live.

  18. This scenery is greener than what I'm used to seeing here. Nice change.

  19. Every photograph is so lush and green and gorgeous. In the first photograph the unusual clouds looked like a train in the sky or single file in the sky. Dynamite "eye." Mt. Baldy was extraordinaire with its snow cap.

"The way is the goal", says a well-known proverb, thank you for taking it with you.

  22. Hi S P & P, This post is an excellent example of what I would call my favorite kind of blog. Your “eye” for photography is wonderful and you captured some great images on hike to share with us. Your photos are the sort that make me feel like I’m there. Thanks for taking us along on the Water Tank Trail. John PS I’m OK on missing the water tank. 😊

  27. Civilization! You don't often post anything with houses. The last shot is quite the panorama. I'm off to Tucson and Sedona for some primo vistas myself. :)

  29. Beautiful mountain view and lots of welcome green. It's a rare thing for you to show a trail that I wouldn't be afraid to start out on! I enjoyed this different desert walk as much as I do your more difficult ones.
