It's been a couple weeks since I've been out to the desert, but I did manage to hike in the local hills a couple times during the last week. We've been very lucky with our weather, especially when I look at the frigid conditions in other parts of the country and the world. I am indeed fortunate to live where I live, and I'm sending warm sunny thoughts to those of you suffering through cold, ice and snow. Hang in there!🥶
A beautiful day after an overnight rain. |
Another view of Catalina Island, about 44 miles from where I'm standing. |
Hiking trails in the foreground; Saddleback Mountain behind. |
Left behind from the oil property days. I like the rusty and faded colors! |
Look closely for the big cranes in Long Beach Harbor (and Catalina Island in the background). |
A splash of color! |
Moonrise and hawk. |
I was surprised to come across this guy (gopher snake) on a cool, cloudy day. But look how skinny he is! Likely forced out of hybernation to look for a meal. Hope he finds something to eat soon.
Lilly taking a break on our walk home from Starbucks. |
Good day, LA! |
Thanks for stopping by, and enjoy the week ahead!!
Linking with Skywatch Friday.
Lovely pictures
ReplyDeleteHow serendipitous catching the moon and hawk!
ReplyDeleteI love the bird and the moon
ReplyDeleteGreat photos!
ReplyDeleteThat gopher snake caught my attention. So skinny and deflated looking. The scenery is just beautiful.
ReplyDeletebeautiful photos as always
ReplyDeleteYour blog continues to inspire envy--as well as appreciation and wonder. We're hoping to get back to California in May, and your posts always remind me of why it's worth the effort.
ReplyDeleteOn reading this post, I have learnt a few things and need to google more info. Toyon berries and gopher snake. Plus you don't live out in the dessert country as I had imagined. Seems like you have a perfect base.
ReplyDeleteI love the reflection, splash of colour and the moon with the hawk. How lovely to be able to walk with Lilly regularly.

DeleteWhat a beautiful place to live!
ReplyDeleteThat is beautiful country! Catalina Island looks much closer than 44 miles from you. Its nice to see somewhere with sun and warmth.
ReplyDeleteYour beautiufl photos are very inviting and appreciated as it is a bit cold in New England but this
ReplyDeleteWinter ~ way it goes ~ thanks ~ Sweet grand daughter photo too ~ hugs,

You definitely catch some VERY good ones. I love the way you can grab some color, and fort me, I love the old water pipe... The cloud reflection in the water puddle was unique. Thanks Oh yes and catching that cute girl ain't bad. Smiles from a cool first coast.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous captures!
ReplyDeleteSo clear when you can see out to Catalina. It's fun to see your home images. I live so close to you that they're pretty local to me, too.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous skies and scenes. I especially like the first shot!
ReplyDeleteLovely views. I'd been reading about Catalina just recently. Nice to see photos of it in the distance.
ReplyDeleteThese really are beautiful. You live in a great place and you are equipped to share it. Lucky us! I too hope to gopher snake find something to eat. It's great. You're compassionate to snakes and all creatures. Your photos are all very excellent and sharp, but today I learned the most from the hawk and moonrise. Thank you for showing that. A photo does not have to be perfect and sharp to carry an artistic and emotional punch. Well done. Aloha
ReplyDeleteI'm scared of snakes - all kinds of snakes!
ReplyDeleteWorth a Thousand Words
California is so beautiful and your wonderful photos really bring it to life! As I freeze up here in Toronto, my thoughts turn to San Diego, where my parents lived for decades. Thanks for sharing you day!
ReplyDeleteLove the second shot! Awesome skywatch pic.
ReplyDeleteAmazing place , Truly beautiful collection of photos. Happy Weekend.
ReplyDeleteDuring the 3 separate occasions I lived in Southern California (I'm a Bay Area Native, living in SW Washington now), I used to really enjoy those wonderful clear days that would let me see the mountains clearly. I wish I had known about your local hill when I lived close enough. Well, that was a very long time ago. Very enjoyable post.
ReplyDeleteI have never thought of snakes being fat or skinny. 😊
ReplyDeleteI'll have to enjoy your photos vicariously as it is -3F here this morning and snow-covered.
Dearest Peter,
ReplyDeleteIncredible photos, like the 2nd one with the cloud reflection in the water puddle.
Toyon berries make a perfect frame for that initial photo.
And more and more breathtaking views.
Hugs,
Mariette
Nice reflection in the puddle.
ReplyDeleteWonderful moody skies and quite a scary meeting with that snake.
ReplyDeleteWell you did get some good photos and a snake, I like the last one best
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful country, so different from where I live. And that puddle photo - I've never seen one that captured the blue sky quite like yours did. I would have been scared coming across that snake.
ReplyDeleteWe too have weird weather in Bengaluru with warm nights kicking in winter from a week. Last picture is mesmerizing sir!
ReplyDeleteYou found a great spot of views. I get excited when I can see Catalina from Newport but you got some great views from much farther away.
ReplyDeleteWow, truly another world than our grey cold winter! Looks like holidays... but my absolute favorite ist #5, I like these old things and faded colors too.
ReplyDeleteGreetings from Germany
Such a nice collection (love the rusty thingy most) and thank you for the warming thoughts! I really cannot remember a November and December so darn cold and with snow. The 1 1/2 hours in -9C / 15F when the firefighters took care here really were not funny, but soon... 38-40C, that´s some wonderful 104F!
ReplyDeleteI like the snake shot, in a heart-like pose.
ReplyDeleteTerrific series of images from the West Coast.
ReplyDeleteIt was cold (35F) here in central Florida this morning, but it won't last long.
Love all your photos! What a surprise to see a snake out of hibernation at this time of the year, buy=t it did look skinny and hungry. You are indeed fortunate to not have gone through the horrible arctic blast most of the states experienced ---brrrr---we went down to minus 17 degrees in my part of Colorado and some parts we minus 30 degrees.
ReplyDeleteLovely shots especially the first and the last.
ReplyDeleteOutstanding Photos Throughout - Well Done Brother Parts - Smell A Is Gorgeous On A Clear Day
ReplyDeleteBe Well ,
Cheers
Thanks for the virtual warmth and the beautiful photos!
ReplyDeleteThe snake looks really emaciated, I hope it finds a fat mouse.
All the best from Austria, Traude

AWE!!! You got some breathtaking skies here! And the rusty oil thing would make a lovely watercolor. Poor snake and cool Lilly!
