Mitch and I were driving home having just finished up a hike in the Cleghorn Lakes Wilderness Area. More to follow on the hike, but this photo's a sneak preview:
This is a pano shot using my iPhone. Isn't it a beauty?! Nothing but wide open spaces and huge skies! Like I said, more to follow. I'll have a dedicated post for this hike.
As we drive through Wonder Valley heading home, something catches my eye on the side of the road. Stop the car, back up, and let's see if it's photo worthy.
Interesting. It appears to be a small art installation with things attached to old bedsprings. In the photo above, it's strips of fabric blowing in the breeze. No one around. Not in anyone's yard or near a house. Just seems to be put here for random enjoyment!
I'm partial to Altoids, and always keep a tin in the car, although I must admit I've never tried Myntz. When you used to open a can of Altoids, they said "CURIOUSLY STRONG" (they are quite strong). Now they just say "UNCLE!". Someone at Altoids has a sense of humor, and what an interesting and unlikely item to be hanging from a bedspring!
Linking with Skywatch Friday.
Thanks for stopping by!
That's pretty cool. Reminds me of many Route 66 things that are put up to just for its own sake. I love altoids as well and used to keep a can in the car. My son really likes them and would put all of them in his mouth just for the rush. I declined to keep on supplying him.
ReplyDeleteHow neat! Lovely photos, and I also love the vintage tins!
ReplyDeleteI like the creativity and love the gorgeous sky with clouds
ReplyDeleteOHHH! I love this! Strange roadside art always intrigues me. I have some tin cans like that, but they were for tea bags.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful area, so desolate looking but really ... so much more if you stop and really look.
...springs, I've hear of flower beds!
ReplyDelete😂
DeleteStrange. :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderfully spontaneous discovery. There's something magical about stumbling upon unexpected roadside art, especially after a day surrounded by wild, open beauty
ReplyDeleteStrange. I wonder who put that up. That is quite the view in the panorama shot.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful captures.
ReplyDeleteWhat an odd delight!
ReplyDeleteDesert springs! I suppose they could’ve attached mittens and called it Palm Springs.
ReplyDeleteGood one!!
DeleteVery interesting scenes from the desert.
ReplyDeleteLove these pictures. Always so interesting.
ReplyDeleteThat's great!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sky shot.
ReplyDeleteFantastic! Love it. Not had Altoids in years! I think they stopped selling them over here. Last I can recall seeing them was the 90s!
ReplyDeleteYou always find interesting things, or do they find you? This was so enjoyable. I'd love to know the back story if you are ever able to find it out. I tried, in a quick internet search, and couldn't. Another Altoid slogan, I think, is "stronger than the tin they came in", which is perfect for this installation in the middle of nowhere.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful iphone photo
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday
What a beautiful panoramic you lead us off with! I look forward to the dedicated post on these shots. An interesting "art installation" you spotted here. I would assume that something like this, despite how jovial it may be and brings smiles to the passersby is considered junk and could be fined if the artist(s) was/were caught. I used to be an Altoids user, except they made too much noise when I would carry them in my suit coat or pants. Then I went to Listerine pocket strips. Do you know what they are referring to with "Uncle"? I am curious, but not "curiously strong". :-)
ReplyDeleteI think it's "uncle", as in "I give up" or "you're too strong for me".
DeleteI like funky art installations like this. What a find.
ReplyDeleteWorth a Thousand Words
I am a person who looks for elbow room. You captured the mesa perfectly. I have a very small collection of Altoids myself. One has my thumb drives in them. The rest are empty. On NextDoor someone was collecting Altoids for creative art projects. I never have seen bedsprings as art holding Altoid tins in the middle of nowhere.
ReplyDeleteNot the usual spring one would be looking for in such an area. Love them!
ReplyDeleteDitto, Marie. I assume Altoids and Mynts are a type of peppermint lolly? Quite the collection of containers.
ReplyDeleteAmazing place, great installation, Awesome clicks
ReplyDeleteKind of funny art in the desert.
ReplyDeleteAwesome sky shots as always ~ Unique Altoids photo for sure ~ thanks,

You did well with your pano shot, wish my phone was that good with images, loving the art installation, I find that piece fascinating.
ReplyDeleteThat is an interesting find. A little art gallery in the desert. I could hear the wind on that video. I wonder if those Altoids cans made their own type of noise.
ReplyDeleteOh, wow. Fascinating. This looks like my area too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this 😊
ReplyDeleteSuch a fascinating glimpse of the desert!
ReplyDeleteLove the extraordinary landscapes and unexpected little discoveries.
Always something intriguing out there!
Nice, I like those kinds of unexpected and funny artistic expressions.
ReplyDeleteI love altoids too! And they are curiously strong. I have not said uncle though when having one. I saw an article somewhere about a milky way photo contest. The only shot I saw was one taken from the space station.
ReplyDeleteWhat a curiously bizarre art installation in the desert, I love it! I bet those Altoid tins made a super rattle in the desert wind. Awesome discovery.
ReplyDeleteSomeone has a sense of humour with the spring art installation.
ReplyDeleteI usually have a tin of altoids around though I forget about them for some reason. I just looked behind the computer speaker and found the tin I keep down here in the office. I'll have to go wash the dust off the top before I can try one and see if it is still curiously strong.
ReplyDeleteWhimsical art installation. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteAlways great to find Springs out in the middle of the desert!
ReplyDeleteThis is such an unusual sight to see out in the middle of no where! It reminds me of the random monolilths someone was leaving in obscure places a few summers ago
ReplyDeleteWow on the first pic!
ReplyDeleteThe rest... unknown here.... We live behind a rock in Germany.
