Bombs Away!

We managed to escape out to the desert this weekend for some badly needed R&R. Thanks to my sister over at Lap Dog Knits for keeping a close eye on our sick mother this weekend. Gayle and I started what will be many, many hours of work on fixing up our little homestead cabin and trailer. Step 1: Meet with a guy to put in a septic tank. Check. This guy is great, has lived in 29 Palms his whole life, and his parents before him, and he's full of interesting stories. His prices are incredibly reasonable, and he said he will even create a flat pad for the trailer using his backhoe and haul the trailer up on it. But I digress... step 2: Contact someone to haul away the huge pile of old discarded junk. Check. So today, we collected all the old metal junk around the cabin and added it to the huge pile that was already there. As we were cleaning, you will not believe what my wife found in some bushes next to the cabin! I'm not a big fan of being in front of the camera lens, but I had to make an exception for this!
All I kept hearing my wife say was "Don't drop it, don't drop it!!". This bomb (or whatever it is) is super heavy, so no doubt in my mind it is fully loaded!

  1. When somebody find this in holland then an army explosive team is warned and they disarm the grenate or let it explode on a safe place. No thing to play with.

  7. Yikes! Probably from the Marine base? Is that your homestead in your header photo? Very cute! I was in Joshua Tree national park Friday on a field trip with 28 3rd graders...not my ideal visit, I must say, but they all did behave except for two boys who decided to "seat hop" on the way back to school! And, one's DAD was sitting on the bus with him and did NOTHING! So, of course (...mean teacher...) I had to yell, "Would Armando's FATHER please ask him to SIT DOWN?"...sigh...What is wrong with these young parents? I hope to return to JTree this week (spring break) and take some photos of the blossoms.
