Orange Sky
Took this tonight as the sun was setting in the CA desert. The plant silhouette is the bloom of a cactus called an ocotillo. They are tall and spiky, and when flowering, have spectacular red blooms at the ends of each branch. Very unusual, and quintessential desert!

Busy Bees!
Guess I'll add to all the posts about Spring, beautiful flowers, etc. I didn't have to go far to capture these photos... right out my front door. Lots of stuff in bloom, and the bees are very busy!
Wasp nest... found it in the front garden, and makes for a fun macro shot! |
Hope you're having a great week!

Skies Over 29
I haven't had a chance to do much desert photography recently, but I did get a couple nice sunset shots last weekend in 29 Palms, CA. This one is more "moon-rise" than sunset, but I like the colors and lights of the town in the background.
This one's my favorite... just an old dusty desert road, a short walk from our house, that disappears off in the distance. Very little light left, but wonderful colors in the sky. A very typical scene you can find just about anywhere you go in the desert.

Cleaning Out the Trailer
This is going to be a long process. Really long. But fun. My wife started going through the old, dirty, grungy, stinky trailer today and found a few treasures. Probably more where that came from, because we've just started the process. Hoping we can clean up the trailer and use it as overflow from our main house when we have a lot of company. Like I say, a lot of work to be done.
Twenty-five feet long, eight feet wide, and the biggest mess you've ever seen!
Today my wife found a harmonica collection...
An old knife collection...
An art deco bathroom light fixture...
A wooden Buddha...
An antique wooden box with old wall plates, flash lights, a Marine medallion... even some dentures!
Old comic books...
And perhaps my favorite... a couple of antique fans. An Emerson "Junior", and an Emerson "Seabreeze". Very cool. The Emerson Seabreeze was made in Missouri in 1905!
Stay tuned... I'll post our progress from time to time. Thanks for stopping by!

San Diego Skyline
Well, another week with not much photography. I was at a meeting in San Diego all week, and the extent of my photography was walking from the Marriott to the Convention Center and taking a few pics with my iPhone. But San Diego's a great city, and very photogenic!
San Diego skyline reflected in this glass-panel building. |
Sculpture above the marina... you can see the sail boat masts peeking out of the bottom of the photo. |
One of the tall towers across from the San Diego Convention Center with the sun reflecting off the mirror panels on the building... gotta love that blue sky! |
