Hunter Moon

Before I share my moon shots from earlier in the week, it occurs to me I have some unfinished business from a couple of posts ago. I asked you "what looks weird" in the photo (below)? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think anyone got the answer (or you chose to ignore the question!).
The correct answer (besides making me look way too skinny) is that my shadow is leaning into the sun! I took two photos while standing out on the highway, one into the sun and one in the opposite direction (with my long, skinny shadow). I liked them both so combined them into this composite image.

On to the Hunter Moon. First impressions were that I wouldn't be able to get any moon shots because of the thick cloud cover. But later in the evening, I noticed the moon was just visible behind the clouds.

It would disappear, only to reappear a few minutes later. The clouds were moving quickly.

Added some color saturation to this shot.
It's been a while since I've taken moon shots, so I had some fun with this!
Linking with Skywatch Friday.
Thanks for stopping by, and have a great weekend!

  1. Well thanks for explaining the mystery. Can't believe I didn't notice. Wonderful moon shots. I was on a camping trip last weekend and the moon was appearing and disappearing behind the fast moving clouds in amongst the trees where I was camping. I wasn't equipped to take a decent shot but the effect was magical. Your moon shots are magical in a different way.

  2. Great moon shots! We all love to stare at it I think and I have so many shots of it, mostly terrible, but these have come out really well and with a lot of atmosphere. Sorry I also missed the question before :0)

  5. The shadow shot is very wel executed in PS. Great idea and the moon is the moon as always. So crisp and clear with no interference of dust or false light from cities at the horizon.

  8. I'm a serious moonie. But I've not been very successful shooting her. Maybe I should take a photography class. Sigh. Enjoyed your shots.

  12. loved the tricky shot on top. Don´t think I have seen it before :)

The moon, have not seen it for a while now. Tried to get shots of the sun the same way but that was harder.

  22. Beautiful moon shots -- your patience paid off. And the shadow -- my mind doesn't work that way (or maybe at all).... it just looked to me like a magical shadow . Sorry -- I am unworthy of your expertise.
