Ready or Not...

... Here comes 2024!! I vaguely recall this time last year, thinking what a tough year 2022 had been, and that there was no way to go but up for 2023. My expectations were high, and if I'm honest, I think 2023 only partly met my expectations. It seems as if humanity is still on a self destructive pathway, and in some ways, getting even worse.
But as we fly into 2024, I'm hopeful it will be a great year, or at least a better year. It will take time.

In the meantime, I'll keep looking up. Keep appreciating our daily sunrises and sunsets, and being thankful for all I have.

Thanks for stopping by, and wishing you a very happy & healthy 2024!!

  5. Dearest Peter,
Happy and healthy 2024 to you and yours!
The year 2023 was one out of hell, when somebody nearly killed me as I was on my E–bike. Grateful for being able to walk again and for having gained weight from my low of 88 pounds to 98.5 pounds. Still need to gain more! The extreme pain near stent–graft (for tear in aorta) is less and less and I am enjoying pain free days!
    There is HOPE.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  9. And a Very Happy New Year to you and yours. I too hit this point too many times when you said: It seems as if humanity is still on a self destructive pathway, and in some ways, getting even worse. I am in accord and hope soon things will look UP and do a 180. As always like the shots, but did smile at Sunrise and Sunset!
BTW that shot under the street signs is fantastic, so busy I had to stop and study it. Amazing focus at the distance and I about missed big heavenly ball peeking out!
Great stuff and keep on keeping on, love it!

  17. Not much else we can do, Peter. for most of the last 80 years I've seen things generally getting better--- two steps forward, one step back, perhaps, but still better. Since these past few years seem like two steps back, and a wish forward. Happy New Year. I'm grateful for your posts.

  18. Sometimes you just have to remind yourself that, for all the troubles in the world, it's still a rather wonderful place. Lets all hope for great things in 2024. With the world leaders we have in office it's difficult to see how anything can go wrong!

  19. As you said, we are in a self-destructive pathway. And most of us haven't chosen to be there...
Hope still remains. Gratitude for what we have and hope to be able to preserve it.
Happy and healthy New Year to you too and thanks! 😊🎁

  20. Great post. We must look forward. Put#n must give up, he and Ham#s are barely in the news no more, but alas. If ... no, WHEN peace returns, oh. All destroyed. 2024 will hopefully be an expensive year where everything can be rebuild. People can go home. Resume work. Get a normal life. Sunrise and sunset must become a joy again!

  21. Some are, rightfully, quite depressed about our current state and where we are headed. I wonder what the future will be. Whatever it is, I won't be here for it, or not for long.

  24. It's been a hard year in the world, that's true, and a focus on the here and now with an appreciation of that may be the only way through.

  26. I think of the poem "Hope is the thing with Feathers". Maybe 2024 will be better....we can only hope. For me, it was mixed. However, I think of the bloggers who bring me joy and you are one of them, with your hikes and sunsets. Happy New Year to you and may 2024 be kinder to all of us on Earth.

  27. Meet you on the corner of 2023 and 2024, which is somewhere beyond the corner of Sunrise and Sunset. :-)

  40. Spectacular photos!
I also fear that humanity is becoming more and more irrational and greedy for power and actually all weapons of war must be banned worldwide in order to protect the planet.
I will make in 2024 every day a sky photo here from my small place under the sky and publish them all on sunday... will be not spectacular, only an alldays skywatch.
    Happy healthy New Year
