A not quite full Harvest Moon, taken September 15, 2024 (95% full) from my backyard. So named because the bright moonlight would help farmers harvest their summer-grown crops. What caught my eye, and required me to grab my camera, was the way the moon and clouds were competing with each other for center stage!
Linking with Skywatch Friday.
Dearest Peter,
ReplyDeleteThat second photo is so dramatic!
Hugs,
Mariette
I just love the whole series
ReplyDeletefantastic........ great shots
ReplyDelete...once agaiin, I slept through this!!!
ReplyDeleteYou got decent photos from your backyard. I saw the moon but didn’t get any photos although I did try one with my phone. I was not impressed. 🤓
ReplyDeleteGreat shots! From a distance aloof, but what would Earth be without the gravitational pull of the moon. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy mooning!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! And you didn't have to go further than your own backyard!
ReplyDeleteWow. I'd be ashamed for you to see my poor attempt. I'm blaming my old cell phone, but I probably wouldn't do much better with a fancy dedicated camera 😂
ReplyDeleteWonderful shots of Moon, Loved this post.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love the way the moon and clouds are playing together.
ReplyDeleteMarvellous moon shots! 🤩
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, dramatic moon shots.
ReplyDeleteSuper moon pictures (see what I did there?), I always like it when there's just a thin veil of wispy clouds too.
ReplyDeleteI worked for some years on a farm and if the farmer had ever suggested working by moonlight after a thirteen or fourteen hour shift he'd have had a major protest to deal with!
I'm expecting the sound of a theremin and scary titles (in red) telling me about invaders from space. Seriously, these are excellent. Very well done, Peter.
ReplyDeleteThe moon has been beautiful here too. Not many clouds, but the last two nights we have had a gorgeous rainbow-coloured halo around the moon. A pity my phone-camera cannot photograph it, but I enjoyed standing and staring :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful serie of the clouded harvest moon. Especially the third shot is great.
ReplyDelete- greetings from the Netherlands
I'm a bit late posting this week but I think you will like it. I did see the moon the other night but missed the partial eclipse. Do like the shots you took
ReplyDeleteWonderful series of moon shots ~ Wow! ~ thanks,

What a spectacle!! gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteGreat series of photos where the clouds make the view so enchanting and dramatic!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful moon vs. clouds captures. Loved the detail on the moon.
ReplyDeleteYour moon photos always amaze me, they are so clear.
ReplyDeleteThat was a spectacular moon! Great captures!
ReplyDeleteWow excellent shots of the moon!!!!
ReplyDeleteFantastic captures.
ReplyDeleteWorth a Thousand Words
How did you get that first one? I looks almost 3D. I can never take great pics of the moon, but then again I'm not using a good camera.
ReplyDeleteThanks Liz! I like the first one too. Has almost a metallic appearance to it. I used a 400mm telephoto lens, but didn't have time to set up a tripod, so had to bump up the ISO. It adds a little grain to the photo, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
DeleteVery beautiful! Here we have so much light pollution,no way for a view like this, so thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos of the moon. I love it when the clouds float around the moon like that. They look so moody.
ReplyDeleteI love the nights when the moon competes with fast moving clouds too. It makes it so much more interesting that just a black sky and a bright moon.
ReplyDeleteWhen I shot the eclipse this year, we had fast moving clouds and I enjoyed that immensely as it gave everything a unique look.
I did not even attempt photos this year, but I did see it. Love seeing your photos..
ReplyDeleteGreat series of moon shots. They are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYour moon shots make it seem so close. I suppose it is close, in perspective to the massive universe, or should I say universes, out there in the great beyond.
ReplyDeleteBOOM!! You got a great series! They look so magical and a little bit spooky.
ReplyDeleteYes, this harvest moon was very impressive at our side of the world too.
Great clear moonshots. Perhaps a recommendation on using a tripod.
ReplyDeleteAwesome captures.
ReplyDeleteAmazing capture.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots!
ReplyDeleteThe Chinese celebrates the Harvest Moon with moon cakes and lanterns. It's called Mid-Autumn Festival, the 2nd most important holiday after the Lunar New Year. In the past several years, we've been getting our mooncakes from Costco. They're imported from Taiwan.
These shots are simply amazing. Wonderful Post! Have a great day!

He was also shown here in NL but by then I was already laying in my bed . Nice photos you took.
ReplyDeleteStunning captures!
ReplyDeleteIt’s fascinating to think about the history behind the Harvest Moon and its significance for farmers.
Happy Thursday!
