Joshua Tree in Monochrome
So last Friday I posted Desert Skies - Storm On The Way! Well, the storm hit mid-morning and dropped a fair amount of rain on Joshua Tree National Park. By about 4 PM, we were starting to get cabin fever, so we drove into the park. It was cold, with light rain and fog. My initial thought was this was a bust (from a photography point of view). But as the fog and clouds continued to move in, things got really interesting. The Park was practically empty, but the few people we did see all seemed to be photographers! One car kept pulling off at the same turn outs I was taking, and he had one of those big, white, expensive Canon pro telephoto lenses, so I was in good company! Because of the fog and clouds, I decided to post everything in black and white.
Joshua Tree National Park... empty! A B&W image except for the yellow lines in the street.
Great photos all. I like how the yellow stripe remains in the top shot. I use to know how to do that. Are there any wildflowers out and about yet? We plan to do our annual desert wildflower tour next month; heading for Anza Borrego first.
Black and white really adds to the photos. My favorite is the one on top with the yellow stripes, I love it that it has a very subtle yellow, beautiful, all of them.
SO dramatic! Very artistic and a good choice to de-saturate! Sorry I'm so late commenting, I had server issues and lost a weeks worth of posts, ugh. But was able to re-create my posts last night and recovered all the entries to WTS #23. Thank you for sharing on Weekly Top Shot...
The photos are excellent and lend well to B&W, with a tinge of color.
ReplyDeleteI always feel blessed when it rains in the desert.
It turned out to be a wonderful day for photography after all. The photos look wonderful in B & W.

I agree, sometimes on overcast days it's better to go B/W to pick up the texture and lines. I love the 2nd and 3rd photo the best!

DeleteWhat a beautiful place! I think the atmosphere of the third photo really captures the sense of the way the day felt.
ReplyDeleteNice. I don't think we will get to Joshua Tree this year.
ReplyDeleteAwesome shots! They look so good in monochrome.
